Coils are the major component of both the magnetic and electrical systems of a tattoo machine. The coils on a machine are electromagnets. When the machine is running, the magnetism created by the coils pulls the armature bar down. When the armature bar makes contact with the front coil core, they can become momentarily stuck together. Once the magnetism in the system dissipates, the armature bar releases and moves upward. This magnetic sticking extends the open contact portion of the machine’s cycle, reducing the duty cycle of the machine. Magnetic sticking and low duty cycle are problematic because when the armature bar is in contact with the front coil core, the needles in the tube are fully extended. Magnetic sticking results in the needles dragging in the skin.

Crown Standard Coils
Designed, developed and manufactured by Eikon, the crowned front coil core on our Crown Standard coils eliminates the magnetic sticking that results in the low duty cycle readings associated with inferior coils. Eikon Crown Standard coils will improve the efficiency of your machine’s mechanical, magnetic and electrical systems. The result is smoother, more controlled machine function and tattooing. Sold as a pair, pre-wired and ready to install. Comes complete with mounting screws, shim washers and instructions. These coils should be installed with a pre-wired capacitor (not included). When replacing coils in a machine, make sure new Crown Standard coils are the same height as the existing coils in the machine. Frames made of material that is not magnetically permeable, such as brass or aluminum, must have a yoke installed to connect the coil cores at their base.
10 Wrap Coils
Made of highest quality 1018 low-carbon steel. Coil cores are 3/8” in diameter and 1 1/4” or 1” tall. Each coil has 10 wraps of 24 AWG magnet wire. Sold pre-wired as a pair. Does not include a capacitor. |
